The Fiat 500 is a compact car with an iconic retro style that plays to both nostalgic and contemporary aesthetics. The “500” in Fiat 500 pays homage to the original Fiat 500, which debuted in 1957 and quickly gained popularity as a symbol of exceptional Italian automotive design.

In addition to its eye-catching design, the Fiat 500 boasts an impressive fuel economy that meets the needs of modern times and rising gas prices. Combined with the car’s nimble handling and responsive steering, the Fiat 500 provides a fun and engaging ride that will appeal to any car enthusiast’s sensibilities. Although 2019 was the last iteration released by Fiat in the U.S., you can still find a chic Fiat 500 with the same reliable quality for less when you shop certified pre-owned at Easterns Automotive.

Fiat 500 Variants

The Fiat 500X is a subcompact crossover SUV that provides buyers with nearly double the space of the standard Fiat 500, which will suit families who like the look of the 500 but need a bigger interior. For those who want more speed, however, the Fiat 500 Abarth can deliver. This variant offers higher performance and a sporty edge with turbocharged engines and sport-tuned suspension — providing the spirited thrill of a sports car with superior fuel efficiency at a combined 30 mpg.

Best and Worst Fiat 500 Years

Years to Avoid

2012. As the first relaunch model year, 2012 is considered the worst due to numerous reported problems concerning its electrical system, faulty power steering, alternator failures and premature battery drain. As a result, 381 complaints were filed with the NHTSA, and four recalls were issued. You won’t find this year in any pre-owned dealership.

2013. While not as problematic as the 2012 model, the 2013 Fiat 500 still has its issues, particularly with the powertrain.

Years to Look Out For

2014. The 2014 model shows the hard work the manufacturer invested into learning from their initial mistakes. After 2013, the brand fixed its problems, creating a chic and dependable vehicle that would jumpstart the model’s rise in popularity.

2018. The 2018 Fiat model builds upon the successes and failings of its predecessors. With convertible and coupe options, improved technology and a stylish Italian design, the 2018 model is one of the years that embodies everything positive the brand has to offer.

Pros and Cons of the Fiat 500

Pros

  • Compact Size: The Fiat 500’s size makes it ideal for navigating crowded city streets and fitting into tight parking spaces.
  • Distinctive Design: The car’s unique retro design sets it apart, appealing to those looking for a stylish vehicle.
  • Fuel Efficiency: The Fiat 500 is known for its fuel efficiency, with upwards of a combined 34 mpg, making it an economical choice for daily commuting and long drives.
  • Agile Handling: Nimble handling and responsive steering contribute to a lively and enjoyable driving experience.

Cons

  • Limited Space: While surprisingly spacious for its size, the Fiat 500 may feel cramped for those accustomed to larger vehicles.
  • Limited Power: The Fiat 500’s engine may feel underpowered for drivers seeking a robust vehicle with high-performance capabilities – although the Abarth may suit those looking for a blend of speed and Italian style.

The Chevy Cruze has something for every driver, from performance enthusiasts to commuters in need of practical transportation. The Cruze boasts a comfortable and well-designed interior and advanced safety features, enhancing drivers’ confidence and guaranteeing a smooth and safe driving experience.

At Easterns Automotive, we’re dedicated to ensuring that every pre-owned Chevy Cruze model in our inventory embodies that promise of quality and reliability. Our certified pre-owned vehicles are refurbished and repaired as needed to protect your investment and give you the most bang for your buck. You can also buy securely with our comprehensive 30-day / 1,000-mile warranty package that will protect you in case of any unexpected issues.

Although Chevrolet has discontinued Chevy Cruze production, there are still many of these high-quality vehicles in the used car market. Interested shoppers can come to Easterns Automotive to see for themselves if it’s the right car for them.

Best and Worst Chevy Cruze Years

Among the best years for the Chevy Cruze is the 2018 model. It earned praise for its smooth ride, well-designed interior, ample cargo room and robust safety features. The 2018 Cruze marked a high point in the model’s evolution, with J.D. Power giving it an 84 out of 100 for its compelling blend of performance and practicality.

The latest iteration of the Chevy Cruze from 2019 is also an excellent demonstration of all the brand has learned and improved over the years. J.D. Power even gave this model the top spot on its 2019 Compact Car Rankings due to its superior fuel efficiency, agile handling, spacious interior and intuitive infotainment system.

While you can’t go wrong with most Chevy Cruze iterations, there are a few exceptions. Some consumers have reported issues with its debut 2011 and 2012 Chevy Cruze, particularly related to the turbocharged engine, a stagnant transmission and lower gas mileage.

You won’t find either of these years in our inventory, as our team only sells certified pre-owned vehicles that have been thoroughly inspected and maintained. We ensure every car we sell will last you for many miles and years to come.

Pros and Cons about the Chevy Cruze

Pros

  • Fuel Efficiency: The Chevy Cruze has consistently delivered impressive fuel efficiency, which can be appealing to those who prioritize savings on refueling. With up to a combined 37 mpg, the model boasts superior gas mileage that even other compact sedans struggle to compete with.
  • Comfortable Interior: The Cruze includes a roomy interior made with high-quality materials to provide a comfortable riding experience for both drivers and passengers.
  • Extensive Safety Features: Safety has been tested and fully accounted for in the Cruze, with features like forward collision alert, lane departure warning and a rearview camera to help drivers feel safer on the road.

Cons

  • Infotainment System: While user-friendly, some may find the infotainment system in certain Chevy Cruze models to be less advanced compared to its competitors.
  • Limited Performance Options: The Cruze may not be the best choice for drivers who want a vehicle with powerful acceleration. That said, those searching for a reliable and efficient compact vehicle for their commute will be more than content with the model’s abilities.

is a ford fiesta a good car

Introduced in 1976, the Ford Fiesta is a compact and efficient vehicle with nimble and responsive handling, perfect for urban driving and navigating tight parking spaces. Despite being noticeably smaller than most other Ford models, the Fiesta hides a shockingly roomy cabin that will keep passengers comfortable while on the road.

The Fiesta also boasts a user-friendly infotainment system and advanced safety features – including airbags, anti-lock brakes and stability control – that earned it a strong safety rating. Although it was discontinued in July 2023, loyal fans can find a high-quality Ford Fiesta at a surprisingly low price at Easterns Automotive.

We preserve the brand’s standards and expectations in all of our certified pre-owned vehicles. Our team vigorously inspects every model in our inventory to ensure they can last buyers another hundred thousand miles or more. Buyers can also invest in a well-preserved vehicle with less stress and more confidence with our seven-day return policy and 30-day / 1,000-mile warranty, which assures car buyers that we’ll fix any unexpected issues promptly so your car delivers consistently optimal performance.

Best and Worst Ford Fiesta Years

The 2017 Ford Fiesta is often lauded as one of the best years due to its refined interior, robust performance and improved fuel efficiency compared to earlier years. Similarly, the 2019 Fiesta stands out for its modern design, agile handling capabilities and advanced tech and safety features, making it a compelling option for pre-owned car buyers who want the safety and convenience of a newer car for less.

However, you may want to avoid this decade’s earlier models, such as the 2011 and 2013 Fiesta, which encountered issues with the automatic transmission. Because there was a higher rate of repairs and maintenance concerns, many pre-owned dealerships don’t bother carrying these years. At Easterns Automotive, we comb through each of our model’s histories and address any potential issues before you’re able to buy or lease it. Our pre-owned inventory is typically on the newer side, featuring models released within the past few years.

Pros and Cons of the Ford Fiesta

Pros

  • Fuel Efficiency: Because of its lightweight design, the Ford Fiesta consistently delivers competitive fuel efficiency. With upwards of a combined 31 mpg, it’s an economical choice that’s guaranteed to save buyers money at the gas pump for their daily commute and long drives.
  • Compact Size: The Fiesta’s small size makes it easy to maneuver in crowded urban sprawl and gives you easy access to parking, even in tight spots.
  • Fun-to-Drive: The Fiesta offers a fun and engaging driving experience with responsive and agile handling.
  • Modern Features: Many Ford Fiesta models come equipped with advanced infotainment systems, providing connectivity options and an enhanced overall driving experience.

Cons

  • Limited Space: While surprisingly spacious for its size, the Fiesta may feel cramped for those who want a vehicle with ample legroom and cargo space.
  • Limited Power in Base Models: While powerful, the base engine of the Ford Fiesta may lack the acceleration some drivers are looking for, particularly when carrying a full load of passengers or cargo.

We’ll Help You Find the Perfect Pre-Owned Vehicle That Checks All Your Boxes

Whether you’re looking for a fun yet dependable Ford Fiesta or something bigger, the team at Easterns Automotive Group will ensure you walk away with the perfect car for you, regardless of your credit score.

We don’t hold credit scores over car owners like other dealerships. Instead, we’re a “Your Job is Your Credit™” dealership. As long as you have a job, we’ll utilize our flexible financing and connections with auto lenders to help you secure the loan you need to get the right car for you at a fair price.

is a kia rio a good car

The Kia Rio is a subcompact car produced by the Korean auto manufacturer Kia. Known for compact size, fuel efficiency and affordability, the Kia Rio is a good choice for those who value practicality over frills.

Since its initial release in 1999, the Kia Rio has undergone several generational updates, with each new version featuring improvements in design, technology and safety features. It is currently in its fourth generation and is export only, meaning it’s offered around the globe but not in the domestic South Korean market.

What are the available trim levels for the Kia Rio?

The Kia Rio is typically available in a range of trims, although the specific trims and their names can vary depending on the model year. Below are some common trims that you might find for the Kia Rio:

  • LX: This is often the base trim level and includes essential features, making it an economical choice.
  • S: The S trim typically adds a few more features and may offer some optional packages for further customization.
  • EX: The EX trim is usually the highest available trim and comes with a more extensive list of standard features, including advanced technology and comfort options.

Is the Kia Rio a Hatchback or a Sedan?

The Kia Rio is available in both hatchback and sedan body styles, providing you with the flexibility to choose the one that best suits your preferences and needs.

Whether you prefer the compact and versatile design of a hatchback or the more traditional sedan style, the Kia Rio offers options for both.

What Is the Fuel Efficiency of the Kia Rio?

The Kia Rio is a great choice for those looking to save on fuel costs. Due to its small size and 1.6 L four-cylinder engine, the Kia Rio excels at fuel efficiency, meaning you won’t find yourself making frequent stops at the gas pump.

Average Fuel Efficiency Ratings for the Fourth-Generation Kia Rio

Kia Rio Sedan

  • City MPG: Approximately 33 miles per gallon
  • Highway MPG: Approximately 41 miles per gallon

Kia Rio Hatchback

  • City MPG: Approximately 33 miles per gallon
  • Highway MPG: Approximately 41 miles per gallon

Keep in mind, these figures are approximate, and actual fuel efficiency may vary based on factors like driving conditions, maintenance and individual driving habits. It’s always a good idea to check the most current EPA fuel efficiency ratings for the specific model year you’re interested in.

What Safety Features Come Standard on the Kia Rio?

Although compact and simple, the Kia Rio can pack a hefty punch in terms of safety. Some of the standard safety features you can expect to find on the Kia Rio include:

  • Advanced Airbag System: This includes dual front, front-seat-mounted side and full-length side curtain airbags to protect occupants in the event of a collision.
  • Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS): ABS helps prevent wheel lockup during hard braking, enhancing stability and steering control.
  • Electronic Stability Control (ESC): ESC helps maintain vehicle stability by detecting and reducing the risk of skidding or loss of control.
  • Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS): This system alerts you if the tire pressure in any of the tires drops below a safe level.
  • Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC): HAC helps prevent the vehicle from rolling backward when starting on an incline.
  • Rearview Camera: Many Kia Rio models come with a rearview camera to assist with parking and reversing.

It’s always a good idea to check the specific safety features offered on the Kia Rio you are interested in, as safety features can vary depending on model year and trim level.

Can I Test Drive a Kia Rio at Your Dealership?

Absolutely. You can test drive a Kia Rio at any of our eight convenient Easterns Automotive locations in DC, Maryland and Virginia. We invite you to browse our inventory of used Kia Rio vehicles and find the one that suits your preferences. Once you’ve found a Kia Rio you like, be sure to stop by one of our dealerships for a test drive.

If you’re looking for an elegant city car loaded with innovative features and a silky-smooth transition for a superior driving experience, the Sonata might be a good fit for you.

The Hyundai Sonata is a mid-size four door sedan manufactured and marketed by Hyundai since 1985. It’s gone through eight generations, the latest of which debuted in 2019. Current models showcase Hyundai’s commitment to stylish design, advanced technology and fuel efficiency. With options ranging from traditional gasoline engines to hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants, there’s a Sonata model to suit a wide range of preferences and eco-conscious drivers.

Hyundai Sonata Trim Levels

SE

The base trim, the Sonata SE, offers a well-rounded set of standard features. It includes an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility, a rearview camera, adaptive cruise control and forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking.

SEL

Building on the SE, the Sonata SEL adds some desirable features like heated front seats, a power-adjustable driver’s seat, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert and keyless entry with push-button start.

Sport

The Sonata Sport trim enhances the vehicle’s aesthetics with sportier exterior styling elements. It also comes with features like a sport-tuned suspension, dual-zone automatic climate control and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

Limited

The Sonata Limited is the top-tier non-hybrid trim, offering a host of premium features. It includes leather upholstery, ventilated front seats, a larger 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a panoramic sunroof and an upgraded 12-speaker Bose audio system.

N Line

For those seeking a more spirited driving experience, the Sonata N Line is a performance-oriented trim. It features a turbocharged engine, sport-tuned suspension, unique N Line styling cues and paddle shifters. It’s designed for those who want a blend of style and performance in their midsize sedan.

Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid

In addition to the gasoline-powered trims, the latest Sonata generation also offers hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. These models prioritize fuel efficiency and come with a range of eco-friendly features, including an electric-only driving mode for the plug-in hybrid.

Limited Hybrid and Plug-In Hybrid

These top-tier hybrid trims add upscale features like leather seating, a premium sound system and advanced safety features, making them a great choice for environmentally conscious drivers who desire luxury.

What Differentiates the Sonata from Other Comparable Vehicles?

What makes the Sonata an extraordinary deal for the price and stiff competition to vehicles of the same class, like the Toyota Camry or Honda Accord, are advanced technology and comprehensive safety features.

The Sonata stands out by offering luxury features like 17-inch alloy wheels (SEL trim), a smart key system, and buttons to press to shift gears instead of having a traditional gear selector shifter.

Additionally, Hyundai’s Blue Link system allows you to locate your vehicle without clicking the panic button. If you forget where your Sonata is parked, you can use the system’s car finder feature on your smartphone. By looking at a map, you can determine where you are and where your car is so you can find it faster and easier.

As for safety features, the Sonata is also considerably more generous than its competitors. For what you pay, expect stellar safety in the form of front and rear parking sensors, a bird’s eye view camera (Unlimited trim) for easier and safer parking and a blind spot view monitor on the dashboard.

History of Nissan

Loyal Nissan buyers or car shoppers just interested in learning more about this popular brand of vehicles may be curious about Nissan’s place in the auto market. Like many Japanese automakers, their history dates back many decades and is full of both industry successes and the occasional struggle.

The Origin of Nissan: 1928 -1958

Nissan originated in Japan and was founded by Yoshisuke Aikawa, who became president of Nihon Sangyo in 1928. Nihon Sangyo merged to become what is now known as Nissan Motor Company in 1931.

In 1933, Nihon Sangyo was officially added to the Tokyo Stock Exchange by its ticker name Nissan. Nissan then expanded into Australia, Mexico, and in 1958, America.

Expansion Into America: 1958 -1983

In the 1950s, Nissan began its global growth and expanded into the Australian and United States auto markets. In 1957, Nissan released the Skyline, which was nicknamed “Godzilla” for its sheer power on the racetrack. The first wave of performance-based cars started here, in large part thanks to Japanese innovation that combined efficiency with luxury.

Nissan was officially established in America as Datsun in 1958. The late fifties were filled with imported Datsun sedans and compact pickups that greatly influenced the American automotive market.

Notable sports car models imported to the US during this time included:

  • 1961 Datsun Fairlady 1200 Roadster
  • 1965 Datsun 320 Truck
  • 1967 Nissan Patrol
  • 1968 American Inspired

In 1973, Nissan sold its one-millionth vehicle in America, and by 1975 it had become the top US vehicle importer. The first American Nissan production facility opened in Smyrna, Tennessee in 1983, where the first American-built Nissan truck was born.

Evolution of Nissan Production: 1983 – Present

Nissan continued to develop and soon stood out amongst its competitors as a brand that balanced luxury and performance with functionality.

In 1985, the first American-built Sentra replaced the 1982 model and became so popular that it was fast-tracked to production in Smyrna.

In 1991, Nissan received an environmental award from the EPA and shifted into green technology with its Future Electric Vehicle concept car. The Environmental Protection Agency dubbed Nissan “Best of the Best” and the first Altima made its debut in the US.

Less than a decade later Nissan released the first four-door compact truck, the Frontier Crew Cab.

Nissan doubled its model options and sales thanks to a surge in state-side popularity in the early 2000s. Notable models released during this time included the:

  • 2005 Frontier
  • 2007 Nissan Altima Hybrid
  • 2009 GT-R

Presently, Nissan continues to be a major player in the automotive market as we ascend into an electric vehicle-focused era. The Nissan Leaf debuted in 2010 followed by the Nissan Kicks Crossover in 2018, both of which prove innovation is in no short supply at the automaker.

In more recent years, Nissan has updated the Altima with a sedan body and all-wheel drive. This year, Nissan is releasing the Ariya, an all-electric crossover, to herald a greener future for the U.S. auto market.

Who Owns Nissan Today?

Nissan is currently owned by Groupe Renault and has been a part of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance since 1999.

Where Are Nissan Vehicle’s Manufactured?

Nissan has international production centers in Japan and Mexico, as well as three manufacturing facilities based in America. The three US-based centers are in:

  • Smyrna, TN
  • Decherd, TN
  • Canton, MS

Is the Nissan Altima a Good Car?

The Nissan Altima is a good car to buy pre-owned because it can last up to 300,000 miles with proper maintenance and care. It has low annual repair costs compared to similar-sized vehicles and newer models have exceptional fuel economy.

The Nissan Altima has a J.D. Power predicted reliability score of 85/100, making it a strong choice for those in the market for a mid-sized sedan.

What is the Nissan Skyline?

The Nissan Skyline originally entered the market as a luxury sedan and was built by Japan’s Prince Motor Company. The first Nissan Skyline was in production from 1957 to 1966 until Prince and Nissan merged, resulting in the transformation of the Skyline into a sports car.

Gone were the sedan builds, and in its place, the first performance-bred Skyline GT-R was released at the Tokyo Motor Show. Historically, the Nissan Skyline is predominantly known as the predecessor to the current GT-R.

Whether you’re running errands or commuting to work, you have probably noticed the increased presence of electric cars on the road. Whether you’re running errands or commuting to work, you have probably noticed the increased presence of electric cars on the road. Despite the recent coronavirus pandemic, electric car sales have been on the rise. Just last year, global sales rose by 43%, which equates to more than three million electric cars sold in 2020.

Even the steep prices of some electric vehicles have not deterred people from giving them a go. The technology behind these vehicles seems to justify and outweigh their higher purchase cost. After all, electric cars are extremely quiet, generate no pollution and have no gas fuel costs. The latter means that buyers save money they would otherwise spend on gas.

As the world continues to move toward a safer and greener future, the goal of the automotive industry is to spearhead this movement by producing millions of electric vehicles, with vehicle options for every type of person and business.

GM Is on Its Way to an All-Electric Future

General Motors, one of the manufacturers trying to lead the charge in electric vehicle technology, is committed to releasing 30 new global electric vehicles by 2025. GM is shaping up to be one of the trailblazers in designing, engineering and producing EVs for every style and customer. The company is building a competitive advantage in batteries, software, vehicle integration, manufacturing and customer experience.

The Detroit automaker has adopted a bold all-or-nothing strategy. GM has set an ambitious target to completely phase out gas and diesel engines for all light-duty vehicles by 2035. Additionally, 2035 will also be the year when GM goes completely carbon neutral at all facilities worldwide.

GM’s Ultium Batteries and Platform

GM’s focus on innovation and efficiency may be what sets them apart from competitors. The manufacturer’s Ultium batteries are big step forward in the EV industry. These large-format, pouch-style batteries can be stacked vertically or horizontally inside the battery pack. This can significantly optimize battery energy storage and layout for different vehicles, such as Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC.

The battery packs can house six, eight, 10, 12 or up to 24 modules depending on what the vehicle type requires. This grants more freedom in the product design process. With no need to design around gas tanks, engines, radiators or exhaust pipes, the Ultium battery packs can be arranged to optimize the vehicle’s design, comfort, quality of driving and storage.

Moreover, Ultium energy options range from 50 to 200 kWh, which could enable an estimated range of up to 400 miles or more on a full charge and 0 to 60 mph acceleration in as little as 3 seconds.

As GM further improves their Ultium battery solution, vehicles manufactured with them will be increasingly efficient, comfortable, aesthetically pleasing and benefit from prolonged battery life.

GM Fleet

GM’s plans to go all electric include enticing businesses to transition from traditional fleet vehicles to electric vehicles only. No matter their size or segment, GM promises businesses many benefits to investing in their products:

  • Versatile electric vehicles for any business segment
  • Front, rear and all-wheel drive options
  • Low battery costs
  • Outstanding vehicle performance

¿Cuál es la diferencia entre Honda y Acura? https://www.easterns.com/es/2021/08/12/diferencias-entre-honda-y-acura/ jueves, 12 de agosto de 2021 20:06:08 +0000 https://www.easterns.com/?p=121521 Honda and Acura cars, trucks and SUVs are some of the best-selling products in the Honda brand. If you are looking to purchase one of these vehicles, you chose a great brand. While both technically come from the same parent company, they are known for and purchased for different characteristics.

Honda is a big company, and they sell a lot more than just cars. Honda is responsible for the design and manufacture of motorcycles, recreational watercraft, power equipment, ATVs and much more. While the corporation is based in Japan, it has made a name for itself worldwide. They even have many manufacturing plants here in the United States, which means when you buy Honda you are still supporting American workers.

Honda and Acura cars, trucks and SUVs are some of the best-selling products in the Honda brand. If you are looking to purchase one of these vehicles, you chose a great brand. While both technically come from the same parent company, they are known for and purchased for different characteristics.

What is the difference between the two?

Pros and Cons of Hondas

Honda is the second most reliable car brand based on the reliability index with a score of 42. Whether it is a pickup truck, crossover hybrid or minivan, you can count on the efficiency and dependability of a Honda vehicle.

Hondas are known for their reliability and practicality. Many people have their Honda for ten years or more. They’re vehicles people purchase when they’re looking for a car, truck or SUV for the long haul.

Hondas also don’t compromise on performance. They tend to break down infrequently and rarely need repairs. When repairs are required, they’re generally inexpensive in comparison to other brands.

Most models are also affordably priced, making them a reasonable purchase for almost any budget. Honda’s cheapest model, the Honda Fit, starts as low as $16,000. Honda is one of the few brands where you can get a great car for under $20,000.

Hondas are great for any stage of life. Hondas offer optimal trunk space for carrying luggage, groceries, strollers or anything else you may be hauling. They have spacious seating in comparison to many luxury vehicles, which frequently offer very little trunk space and might only designed to comfortably seat two people at a time.

Honda is also notable for its safety features. Advances in technology and safety standards have generally made most vehicles safer. Newer Hondas feature backup cameras, sensors and airbags. While Hondas may not boast all the bells and whistles of luxury cars like Acura, they are still safe.

The only cons are the absence of standard luxury features, like heated seats. Hondas are lower powered than their luxury car cousins and don’t offer sports car performance. With a Honda you are getting a practical, reliable and functional vehicle – not a flashy one.

Pros and Cons of Acuras

Acuras have a reputation for being more durable than their more affordable Honda counterparts, but they cost more to repair when things go wrong. The quality of Acuras is a testament to the lasting standard of the brand, but only with proper maintenance and care. Some Acura models, such as the Acura MDX, have been reported to clock over 300,000 miles.

The most obvious difference between Acuras and Hondas are the luxury features. Where Honda vehicles tend to have more “analog” features, Acuras generally have more electronic and computerized bells and whistles. They also boast elegant interiors that most Hondas lack. You will also get a sportier and higher-class exterior aesthetic with an Acura vehicle.

With luxury also comes a more powerful engine. Some Acuras are fast. Models like the MDX boast a nine-speed transmission and 290 horsepower. They manage all that extra power without sacrificing fuel efficiency. These higher-end vehicles are also more likely to have front wheel and four-wheel drive options.

As far as safety goes, Acuras come with Acurawatch, a system that helps guide the driver directionally and helps to prevent accidents. Although both brands tend to rank high in safety, Acuras frequently have a slight edge on Hondas based on the National Highway Safety Traffic Administration (NHSTA)’s safety ratings.

The only cons when it comes to Acuras are higher overall purchase prices and repair costs. For a brand new 2021 TLX Acura you could be paying as much as $37,000 or more.

Luxury car parts are more expensive than the basics, making Acura maintenance pricier than Honda maintenance and repairs. Maintenance is crucial for Acura longevity, so you may need to put in more time and money to maximize the mileage on an Acura compared with the maintenance investment required for a Honda.

Should I Buy a Honda or Should I Buy an Acura?

From a quality and safety perspective either option is essentially the same. The main difference comes down to luxury, power and price. If you are looking for something more affordable, the Honda is the better choice. If you are looking for something luxurious and fast, the Acura is a better choice. Either is a great choice if you want to buy an exceptional pre-owned vehicle.

Or it might be the Ford F-250 pickup truck.

Those are the contradictory conclusions of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the insurance industry-funded Highway Loss Data Institute.

Still, the government agency and private group agree that the theft of late-model vehicles is on a rapid decline in the United States. One reason: automakers’ increasing use of ignition immobilizers, which stop thieves from hot-wiring cars. Nearly 90 percent of 2012 models are equipped with them.

In a report released on Monday, NHTSA said the car stolen most often during the 2011 calendar year was the Charger, with 4.8 thefts for every 1,000 cars produced in 2011.

It was followed by the Mitsubishi Galant, Hyundai Accent, Chevrolet Impala and Chevrolet HHR among vehicles with more than 5,000 units produced that year.

Pickup trucks took the top five places in dueling rankings released today by HLDI, an affiliate of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. In first place was the Ford F-250 crew-cab with four-wheel drive, followed by the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Chevrolet Avalanche 1500, GMC Sierra 1500 crew, and Ford F-350 crew with four-wheel drive. The rankings cover model years 2010 to 2012.

The Cadillac Escalade, long the most theft-prone vehicle according to HLDI, dropped to sixth place after GM reworked the SUV to thwart thieves.

“General Motors has put a lot of effort into new antitheft technology, so that may help explain the decline,” Matt Moore, vice president of the group, said in a statement.

Different methodology

The two reports produced separate results because of differences in methodology, Moore said during an interview. His group bases its rankings on a database of insurance claims, while NHTSA counts thefts reported to police.

Moore said large pickup trucks are also particularly prone to theft claims because owners can recoup the cost of equipment stolen from the flatbed.

Still, the two groups can agree on some of their findings — including that the Charger is stolen more frequently than most vehicles. While the muscle car did not make the top 10 most stolen models according to HLDI, the group found that it had 3.5 theft claims per 1,000 years of insurance coverage, or triple the average model.

Experts are not exactly sure what makes the Charger so popular with thieves, although the car’s ample horsepower might be part of the equation.

“If I were a thief I might be able to answer that better,” Moore said during a phone interview. “They’re powerful vehicles,” he added.

NHTSA says its preliminary data show that model-year 2011 vehicles were stolen that calendar year at rates 91 percent lower than the year before.

Steep decline?

In 2011, there were only 0.1 thefts for every thousand vehicles produced, down from 1.17 thefts per thousand cars in 2010. To compile the report, which contains statistics from 226 vehicle lines, NHTSA compared vehicle theft data from the FBI’s National Crime Information Center with production data reported to the EPA.

NHTSA says its latest findings mark a record decline in the theft rate. NHTSA data show that the nation’s vehicle theft rate has declined by an average of 13 percent each year since 2006, which was the last time the rate increased.

Terri Miller, executive director of Help Eliminate Auto Thefts, or H.E.A.T., a public-private partnership dedicated to the prevention of vehicle theft, was skeptical of NHTSA’s conclusion.

She said auto theft is dropping, but she would be surprised if it is happening as quickly as the report indicates.

“It seems like a very dramatic decrease,” Miller said.
