To understand the importance our slogan, it’s first necessary to understand how most auto dealerships and financing companies determine whether you qualify for an auto loan.

Generally, most dealerships will use your credit score to determine whether you qualify for vehicle financing. Your credit score will also be the main factor influencing the interest rates you’re eligible to receive.

There are a lot of people who simply don’t qualify for an auto loan under that system. People with less than perfect credit might technically qualify for some loans, but they will be charged extraordinarily high interest rates.

Lenders of all types, from mortgage lenders to credit card companies, sometimes lock people with bad credit into a permanent downward spiral.

Not being able to qualify for an auto loan may prevent you from purchasing a car, which ultimately limits the geographic area in which you can find a job.

A lack of transportation could also prevent you from traveling for school to continue your education. Being unable to pursue higher education may further limit your job prospects and make it harder for you to improve your credit.

The inability to qualify for a mortgage can similarly disenfranchise people with bad credit. Not only does having a mortgage and paying it on time improve your credit, but real estate is often a big investment that greatly appreciates over time. Owning property can truly change lives, especially when home values can increase exponentially in a single lifetime and insulate owners from inflation.

Easterns Automotive Group founder and CEO Mr. Robert Bassam was recently featured on Bloomberg Television for the season premiere of The American Dream. This national television show features entrepreneurs across various industries and their struggles to become successful. The American Dream premiered in 2018 and is currently in its third season. The lovely folks from the network asked Bassam to be a part of their new season because the longevity of Easterns was truly fascinating to them. Most people don’t know that Easterns has been in business for over 30 years and was created solely by Bassam who came from humble beginnings. He started with a dream and built his company over time as he grew his wealth and resources.

On the show, Bassam gets super candid about the early stages of his journey as a car dealer and goes into detail about the obstacles and challenges that have occurred along the way.  A major hurdle that Bassam touches on is the recession that happened in 2008 and how that caused him to not only close numerous Easterns locations but also restructure his business.  What makes Bassam so special is that he never let the hard times get him down or take him away from his goals.  Bassam also touches on the world-renowned Easterns jingle and how it was created. “At Eastern Motors, your job is your credit!”  Never in his wildest dreams did he think it would still live on today and be known by people that have never even been to the Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area.  This is all thanks to the commercials that feature players from the Washington Football Team, Washington Wizards, and a plethora of actors, comedians, and musicians.  His son, Joel Bassam is the Director of Marketing for Easterns.  You will see him take some time to break down the brand from a marketing perspective.

MidAtlantic Independent Automotive Dealers Association?(IADA) recently named Robert Bassam?s company Easterns Automotive Group the 2019 Maryland Quality Dealer of the Year. This is such a prestigious honor! Many don?t know that Easterns started as just an idea Bassam had as a young man. He literally started from the bottom and worked his way up to where he is now with over 300 employees across 7 dealerships in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Easterns is truly light years ahead of the car dealer competition due to the innovation at their corporate facility in Sterling, VA. Every day staff works to turnaround between 30-40 vehicles that are ready for sale. Employees at Easterns really work together as a team despite the department that they work in. They understand that the goal is to sell high quality vehicles.
Throughout the years, Easterns went through several changes due to the economy. In 2008, Easterns had 17 locations across the area and Bassam decided it was best to downsize. The goal was to have less dealerships but convert the remaining small dealerships into larger super centers in the right locations to command customers. The internet also played a huge role in the growth of Easterns. Easterns.com has over 1,000 vehicles that are available to all customers despite the specific location. For example, if a customer likes a vehicle at the Laurel, MD store but their nearest store is Temple Hills, MD Easterns staff will have the vehicle transferred free of cost. This also helps potential customers when deciding on a dealer because they will see that Easterns has a 4.9 out of 5 rating and specializes in providing excellent customer service.
Many know Easterns from the early 2000 jingle commercials that have featured players from the Washington Redskins, Washington Wizards, and Baltimore Ravens. These commercials still garner attention on social media and still often go viral to this day. However, Easterns has another audience that is familiar with their philanthropy in the community. Easterns works with both Fox 5 DC and WUSA 9 on segments that are geared to helping individuals or organizations in need. Recently, Easterns stepped up to the plate to donate $10,000 a week to two Loudoun County food banks until the end of the government shutdown. The shutdown left hundreds of thousands of federal workers furloughed without pay. Bassam always does his best to make sure Easterns is present in the community that has supported his brand for over 30 years.
